Turmeric to Treat Fibroids

Turmeric has long been heralded for its medicinal and healing properties. Turmeric is said to be a relative of ginger. Turmeric root is generally dried up and this will be ground into a fine powder, which then gets added to dishes and recipes. When added to a dish, turmeric tends to impart a goldenish tinge. Due to this aspect, many chefs tend to call it the poor man’s saffron. According to herbalists, though, this herb has a much higher standing. Amongst those who deal with alternative healing techniques, turmeric could well be placed on the pedestal of ‘miracle herb’.

Its’ Uses:

Turmeric could be used to treat the following:

  • Arthritis
  • Gallbladder problems
  • Cataracts
  • Boils, scabies, lesions or other wounds that are open mouthed
  • High levels of cholesterol
  • Sinusitis
  • Jaundice
  • Heart diseases
  • Disorders of the liver
Turmeric and Fibroids:

Chinese and Indian doctors have embraced turmeric for centuries now; and it gets a lot of respect as being a medicinal herb. Today, even the world of Western medicine is ready to experiment with the usage of turmeric. In recent times, doctors have been using turmeric supplements as a prescription drug to treat fibroids.

What are Fibroids?

Fibroids are benign tumors which are generally found to be outside or inside the uterus. They could be as small as a pea or could sometimes grow to the size of a melon. On an average, however, they’ll stick to the sizes between a grapefruit and an orange.

According to studies, a good 30% of the women in America are known to have fibroids; and many more must be undiagnosed. Furthermore, it is estimated that a good 80% of women may have fibroids when they’re in their childbearing age and they still don’t know about it.

Fibroids, say doctors, could be the most common problem of a perimenopause. They are also known to cause for hysterectomies in a later stage. According to statistics provided by the NCH (National Center for Health), there are around 400,000 hysterectomies that are performed on an annual basis and most of these have been direct effects of fibroids.

The Treatment Plan:

Generally when a woman is diagnosed with a fibroid growth, the doctors will prescribe a diet which is rich in food items which help the liver. If the women’s liver starts dysfunctioning, then the estrogen will stay in her system for longer and this could cause for its own set of problems. This is when the use of turmeric will come into play.

Turmeric is known to contain properties that help it in detoxifying; and this could help in the protection of the liver. It could protect the liver from elements like toxic chemicals which are known to have a damaging effect. Turmeric is also known to stimulate the liver and this will help in the reduction of estrogen levels and this is what will help it minimize the creation and growth of fibroids.
