Morning sickness is usually treated with herbs. Herbal treatments are very much useful to cure morning sickness. Herbs are no doubt safe to use, but here are some Herbs to avoid during pregnancy.

Most herbs to avoid during pregnancy contain strong laxatives, which cause cramps in stomach muscles. They also result in stomach gripping. Thus, we are providing you with information about herbs that are harmful during pregnancy. These herbs should not be consumed during pregnancy:

Angelica:

A biennial and perennial herbs that blooms greenish white colored flowers. Commonly used as flavoring agent, this herb is also used for some medicinal purpose. The stalks of this herb are used as medicine. But, consuming this herb during pregnancy is harmful, as they cause uterine contraction.

Cinchona:

Generally, found in southern America, this herb grows with evergreen foliage. The bark of this large shrub is used for medicinal purpose. Cinchona contains several alkaloids that leave negative affects during pregnancy.

Eucalyptus:

One of the flowering plant that has gained positive attention for global development. According to recent medical research, eucalyptus was proved beneficial to prevent swine flu. But, this herb is unable to eliminate out from kidney. Thus, it is not good during pregnancy,

Lovage:

An herb that is generally used to flavor South European cuisines, the roots of lovage is used for medicinal reasons. Pregnant women should not consume this herb, as it causes uterine contraction.

Ephedra:

Ephedra belongs to Chinese traditional medicines that are useful in the treatment of hay fever and asthma. This herb acts as stimulant and thus increases blood pressure. Hence, do not consume this herb during pregnancy.

Mistletoe:

Mistletoe is a hemi- parasite plant that is used as herb in many cultures. The twigs and tender leaves are used by herbalist for curing respiratory and circulatory system problems. But, consumption of this herb during pregnancy causes contractions.

Pennyroyal:

A plant that belongs to mint family is widely used as folk medicines. They are even added to numerous cuisines. Due to its high concentration, this herb should not be taken internally. It is toxic in nature, thus cause miscarriage.

Poke root:

Also known as pokeweed, it is native to Northern and Southern America. This herb contains alkaloids that are harmful for health. The intake of shoots causes vomiting and thus results in cramps and watery diarrhea.

Rue:

A scented evergreen shrub, rue is highly useful in the treatment of strained eyes and skin rashes. The consumption of this herb results in stomach cramps and vomiting. Thus, this herb should not consumed by pregnant women.

Tansy:

Tansy in perennial non- woody flowering plant that is used for flavoring puddings. This herb is also used for medicinal purpose, but this herb also contain volatile oils- toxic product for liver and digestive tract. Thus, pregnant women should avoid tansy as, it stimulates contraction.

Wild ginger:

This herb possesses similar taste to cultivated ginger. But, the consumption of this herb results in uterine contraction. Thus, this herb should not be consumed by during pregnancy.
