Herbs and spices uses for your day to day lives

When Monica from F.R.I.E.N.D.S. picked up a mop to clean the floor, we knew it was normal, because she is a character that is obsessive about cleanliness to the extent of OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). But for the rest of us earthlings, keeping the house clean and fresh can seem like quite the task. In older days, magic came out of the kitchen cupboards. Our great grandmothers didn’t invest in a million cleaning products, instead they turned to what they already had, and effectively used it to combat those armies of germs that threatened to turn the house into a breeding ground. Herbs and spices uses were a common task and this is also useful for your daily living.

A little research on Chinese herbs will tell you that some simple herbs can leave your house sparkling, with that touch of ‘fresh’ in the air.

SAGE

For centuries, herbs and spices uses have included Sage as it has been used for centuries to gain knowledge and purity. A strong sage tea is said to clear out the negativity from the house. Bundles of sage can be hung in the house. The fragrance is heavenly. According to legends, it helps in keeping the evil spirits at bay.

VANILLA

Vanilla is said to have the power to bring love and happiness into your home. It leaves the house smelling fresh, plus there’s something about the fragrance that leaves the house looking more ‘inviting’.

LEMON PEEL

Lemon peel banishes negativity and objectifies freshness. It is quite the mood lifter, and can be added to the floor water to give the house a zesty fragrance.

ORANGE PEEL

Kill those germ battalions instantly with a dash of orange peel. Plus, the citron smell is an added advantage. Burn orange peels on the stove when you have a cold or a sore throat.

PEPPERMINT

Peppermint gives for a soothing effect. Burn peppermint candles to add to calm those nerves. A few drops could be added to the toilet tank at night, to find a refreshed bathroom overnight.

CLOVES

Cloves are said to promote spirituality and love.  The trick is to place these spices in containers that easily camouflage with the room, and then set them in the corners of every room of the house.

EUCALYPTUS

Eucalyptus is said to kill germs effectively. It is used in various herbal medicines as well. It provides for protection while promoting good health.

BASIL

Basil is synonymous with summery scent. This herb is said to promote feelings of fidelity, love, protection and wealth.

CINNAMON

Cinnamon sticks can be placed in cleaning water. This spice is said to promote safety and happiness. Cinnamon used in the floor water is said to give the house a cozy and warm feeling.

CHAMOMILE

The fragrance of chamomile is best described as a combination of apples and fresh cut hay. If you have frequented farms in your childhood (or still do), this is a scent that you will automatically relate to. Chamomile is said to bring peace and serenity to the soul, while it purifies and cleans the house.

Once you’re done cleaning the house, sit down, relax, and brew yourself a cup of green tea; and savor the freshness. These herbs and spices uses can help you achieve a better life, all possible only if you look into your very own kitchen cabinets.
