Cassia is also known as the golden shower tree, which is widely found in many parts of Asia. It is considered as the most beautiful tree in India. You will find it loaded with clusters of bright yellow colored flowers. Usually, well known as flowering tree, it belongs to the family of fabaceae. This tree is 30 to 60 ft tall and grows very speedily. As the tree resembles to European Laburnum, it is also called as Indian Laburnum.
Being resident of India, it is extensively used in Indian traditional medicines. You will find this tree residing in some evergreen forest as, it requires moist climate. Almost, all parts of this tree are used for medicinal purpose. But, the fruit of this tree is essential for medicinal purpose. The root bark of the tree contains oxy-anthraquinone and phlobaphenes, which are beneficial for good health.

You may use the root of cassia to cure common cold. Burn the roots, and inhale the smoke to cure running nose. The smoke also relieves the nasal blockages during sinusitis.
Extract the pulp of cassia fruit, which is very effective for the treatment of constipation. The intake of this pulp is safe for pregnant women and small children. Soak some fifty grams of cassia pulp in water for over night. Strain away the water in the morning and consume it with some amount of sugar.
Kids grab anything that is available, thus frequently suffer from indigestion. In such cases, apply the pulp of cassia near the navel. You may also mix it with almond oil and massage on your stomach to ease your bowel movements.
The leaves of the skin are used for skin ailments. The application of this leaves relieves the irritation, swelling, and rashes on the skin. Make a paste of this leaves to cure inflammation and ringworms.
Cassia pulp is very much effective in ageusia or loss of taste senses. Excessive intake of opium or cocaine makes the tongue to loose its taste. Thus, intake of this pulp restores back the taste.
Apart from medicinal uses, the flowers of this tree are used as vegetable in some of the hill station. They are widely used in religious rituals of Kerala state in India. The wood is this tree is also very strong and has been used to construct Ahala Kanuwa in Adam’s peak – Sri Lanka. It is also national flower of Thailand, where the yellow colored flower symbolizes the royalty.
