Black nightshade – for common ailments



I have come across with many of Indian traditional medicines- that have made my life easier and comfortable. Earlier, I use to sneak advice from my physician for small common ailments, but now I am able to handle my health. Gulping down medicines was always a huge and difficult task for me. Well, after going through some good experience, I have become admirer for Ayurvedic medicine- Indian traditional medicines. Due to easy availability and great benefits, these medicines have become popular world wide.

The scriptures of Indian traditional medicine enclose hundreds of essential herbs, which are useful in our day to day life. One such example is of black nightshade, as this herb is useful in our daily life. Commonly known as sun berry or wonder cherry, black nightshade is a delicate annual shrub.  The stems and braches are smooth with egg shaped leaves, blooming out flowers colored in cream, purple, or cream. You will find the flowers in clusters with black or purple fruits.

A resident of West Africa, black nightshade is grown almost all over India. You may find this shrub mostly in woody areas with normal climatic conditions. The leaves and fruits are used for medicinal properties. The leaves of black nightshade contain moisture, minerals, proteins, and carbohydrate. Black nightshade is considered as one the most important element in numerous Indian medicines. It is helpful in curing several ailments, thus is valued more in day to day life.

Fevers:

The leaves of black nightshade are highly useful in the reducing high temperatures during fever. Extract the juice from leaves- which is also popular as vegetable- and drink it cool for better results. You may also eat the fruits of this plant as; they are very much beneficial to lower down fever.

Stomach disorder:

Stomach disorders such as peptic ulcer, flatulence, and colitis can be cured by consuming raw juice extracted from the leaves of black nightshade. The juice is very much beneficial for the treatment of digestive disorder.

Asthma:

The plant is recommended for curing asthma troubles as, they help out in eliminating the phlegm and catarrhal matters from the bronchial tubes.

Skin disorders:

The juice extracted from the leaves of black nightshade can be applied on skin disorders such as acne, pimples, and eczema. Even they act as pain reliever and gives relief from inflamed and agitated skin. Raw fruits of this shrub- those are in green color- can be used in the treatment of ringworms.

Besides, their medicinal use, this plant is used for culinary in many regions of India. People living in Southern India consume the leaves as vegetable. They can be clubbed with different other green leafy vegetable for delicious stews. The fruits are just eaten raw and are usually referred as’ fragrant tomatoes’.
